The site mama Pruska is dedicated to our deceased mother Katarzyna Pruska (1955-2004) and our grandmother Jadwiga Górska-Pruska (1917-1996). We have chosen the name ‘Mama Pruska’, as both women served as maternal role models for us. With this website, we honor everything they have done for us, and all that they sacrificed so that we could become who we are today. Some of their struggles are difficult to imagine, for we have been raised in another era, in another country. However, we are aware of them and realize the toll they have taken on our ancestors. They had to withstand war, oppression and the leaving behind of all that was familiar to them to start over in a new place. Their legacy of their beautiful, touching, as well as painful history has helped shape us into who we are today: Two proud brothers who will never give up and can see through every storm. Even though the void their passing has left us with, can never be filled, we have been able to give it it’s place within us. Mama Pruska signifies for us hope, pride and strength, to believe in one’s self, dare to dream and to turn those dreams into reality. It’s a call to follow one’s own heart and path, irregardless of the opinions of others, which often only serve to limit us. Nothing is impossible, as long as you believe in yourself and never give up. Be courageous, and live for a better day, as for every moment is a new chance to start a new one. Do not be led by fear or sadness. Be led by love, empathy and strength. We hope that this website serves as a reminder of encouragement, to all those who have lost loved ones, to the young ones who lost their parents and have had to pick up the pieces themselves. We understand what it’s like to never have another birthday, never have another Christmas, never again have the opportunity to say what needs to be said. Often society tells us to move on. However, we know everyone’s journey in grief is their own. We also know that ‘gone’, is not gone, unless we choose to forget. Honor those whose lives have been lost by living your best life and celebrate yourself. Do not be discouraged by anything or anyone. Follow your heart, follow your dreams and believe in yourself, because everyone deserves happiness, including you who are reading this.
